Programs and Events

The Office of Student Activities coordinates more than 120 programs a year (often in partnership with student groups and other departments on campus). We ask all students to use their student ID to swipe in at events so we can make sure we’re putting on the right kinds of programs and providing engaging experiences for all students.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Beyond the Hives (4-6 programs a term)
Ever feel like you’re in a bubble on campus? Break free and join us as we gallivant around Kalamazoo and nearby cities such as Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Chicago! Most trips are free, but spots go fast so be sure to checkout the trip line-up each term and sign up for your spot early!

First Fridays (First Friday of the Month – on request)
These events are typically held in partnership with Student Organizations and often include live music and dancing along with local/cultural food!

Weeks of Welcome (Fall Term)
The first few weeks of classes can be stressful and terrifying, so Student Activities is here to host a few fun events to offer opportunities for meeting new people (or reconnecting with long lost friends) and learning how to build in self care to your routine before the chaos really begins!

Homecoming Week (Fall Term)
Homecoming Week includes traditions such as a charity Car Smash, Tug of War Competition, Golf Cart Parade, and Homecoming Dance with spirited giveaways and fun for the whole campus to get involved in. If you’ve never been to an athletic game before, this is the time! Get out there and join in Hornet Nation!

Monte Carlo (Winter Term)
Monte Carlo is a cherished campus tradition. The name of the event suggests it’s theme, but what it means to campus goes much deeper. While the main attraction is playing games like blackjack, poker, and roulette, the reason so many students show up is for the community. Faculty and staff volunteer their time as dealers, students take glamorous pictures and make lasting memories with both old and new friends, and the Student Center is filled with 70% of the campus.
