The following criteria must be met before a new student organization will be considered for active status on campus:
- The organization is bringing something new and different to campus. If the organization is similar to an existing organization, you may be encouraged to contact them directly and explore joining their organization.
- Participation in the organization is safe for all participants and adheres to all College Risk Management policies. Please note that all student organizations must be approved by the College Risk Management team and additional information may be required based on the nature of your organization.
- Participation in the organization is and will remain:
- Open to all actively enrolled Kalamazoo College students
- Beneficial to the student body and campus at large
- Safe and respectful for all students, faculty, and staff
- A contributor to a positive sense of community at Kalamazoo College
- The organization’s mission and values are consistent with that of Kalamazoo College’s mission and values.
- The organization agrees to respectfully receive criticism from the campus community and engage in respectful dialogue regarding your organization’s values and mission. This includes actively listening, researching perspectives, and thoughtfully responding to received feedback.
- The organization must have at least four members with at least one member designated as a Student Activities contact person and one member designated as a Student Funding Board contact.
- The organization does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
- The organization does not condone or encourage any act of hazing being conducted by or associated with its members. We define hazing as: any action taken or situation created, whether on or off college property, to produce mental or physical discomfort, pain, harm, embarrassment, moral degradation, harassment or ridicule, including any activities which are not consistent with federal, state or applicable local and institutional policies and/or regulations.
- The organization has submitted a Constitution.
- The organization has a faculty or staff adviser.
